The Emergency Shelter Exhibition and competition was the brain child of architect Jun Sakaguchi following the devastation of the tsunami in Japan. The idea behind the exhibition was to invite Australian and International architects to design and construct emergency shelters, that can be built using readily available materials in the aftermath of a natural disaster to provide a dry, safe space for people who have lost their homes in disasters like these.
Tonic architects in Brisbane requested the assistance of FDC Construction and Fitout (QLD) in the construction of their design that was displayed at the exhibition in King George Square, Brisbane, from the 17th to the 20th of July.
The funds raised by the sponsors and visitors to the event are to be donated to national disaster affected areas around the world.
