The Hills Clinic is a private psychiatric hospital servicing the growing Sydney North West region. A consortium of doctors were behind the project and, in conjunction with the architect and FDC, designed the building to feel more like an up-market hotel, with the intention of moving away from the traditional institutional feel of many existing facilities. Set on two acres of semi rural land, the project incorporates large landscaped areas and horticultural gardens within the design.
The hospital consists of 24 patient accommodation rooms, group rooms, lounge rooms, dining and commercial kitchen, medical centre, consulting rooms, offices and gymnasium. There is also further provision to fit out additional bedrooms when the hospital expands. Being one of the first facilities of this type, FDC’s design and construct role was to build a project that incorporated comfort, privacy and security, while at the same time adhering to the latest Australasian Health Facility Guidelines and Australian Standards.
The 11 month construction program included the demolition of existing farm houses, running in all new authority services to the property (power, water, gas, sewer, stormwater), and constructing a new portion of Arnold Avenue in Kellyville.
