FDC are proud to announce their sponsorship of the NSW Country Rugby Union (NSWCRU) Cockatoos for the 2017 season. The Cockatoos provide an opportunity for aspirational players from NSW country zones to play rugby at the highest amateur level.
NSWCRU is the largest rugby province in the world and the Cockatoos have won both their games so far in the 2017 program.
The Cockatoos started the season by retaining the Maher/Ross Cup with a convincing win over the NSW Suburban ‘Subbies’, 40-7, at Camden Rugby Park. The Cockatoos debuted 14 new players which led many to think that the Subbies would leverage a win upon their experience. However, this wasn’t to be the case with the Cockatoos dominating the match from the outset.
The NSW Country Cockatoos then chalked up their second win of the season on 18 June, 50-34, against the Brumbies Provincial. Cockatoos Head Coach, Mat Thomas says, “Whilst the Country boys are playing a hard and fast-free flowing style of Rugby, it’s the extra effort being put in to keep NSW Country Rugby strong”. Both teams were faced with bitterly cold conditions in Canberra but the Cockatoos prevailed.
FDC are proud to be supporters of the NSW Country Cockatoos and are impressed with their 2-0 streak thus far. Coach Matt Thomas, is looking forward to the challenge of taking on Queensland Country Blue Heelers this Saturday (1 July). The battle of the borders is traditionally a hard-fought closely contested match.
