FDC provided early works, finalisation of the design and the construction for this new Catholic church workship complex in Brisbane.

With a seating capacity of over 1,000, the new church is constructed of concrete panels cast on site and features significant glazing, a substantial future proof expandable AV package, stone clad altar wall and grand solid timber entry doors. The 14m ceiling is constructed to a 45-degree pitch and has been designed to be naturally ventilated and cooled by utilising a heat stack effect created by combining the high central ceiling and cross breezes captured by the ‘fin’ inspired wall setout. The splayed side walls can also be opened to assist with ventilation.

The design of the concrete panels was complex with numerous angles created where the building’s ‘fin’ elements intersect with  the roof.  Each panel was meticulously designed and positioned to ensure roof, panel, walls and glazing all coincided.

External works included 150 carparks, access paths, landscaping, grand entry gate and a separate amenities block. FDC also widened a 140m section of the street in line with council regulations and this involved upgrading the corresponding sewer, stormwater, high voltage power, NBN and street lighting services.

Through proactive communication and value management initiatives, the project team addressed the client’s requirements while adhering to budget constraints. The beautiful, finished product was appropriately celebrated with much joy by the congregation and broader community at the consecration ceremony presided over by the Archbishop of Brisbane, Mark Coleridge.
