17 Iris Place, Acacia Ridge, QLD
Sugar Research Australia (SRA) is the leading research organisation driving the growth and sustainability of Australia’s sugarcane industry. Designed and delivered by FDC, the new Innovative Research & Industry Services (IRIS) laboratory in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, is a cutting-edge scientific facility housing specialised laboratories for Quarantine, Pathology, Tissue Culture, Genomics, Cytogenetics, Entomology, and Chemistry.
SRA’s scientists and technicians play a crucial role in advancing research and providing essential scientific services to the industry, including Ratoon Stunting Disease (RSD) and disease diagnostics, sugarcane DNA testing, and comprehensive soil, water, and nutrient analysis.
Originally planned for a 7th-floor installation in a seperate building, an unexpected lease cancellation led to a complete redesign to fit an existing industrial space. The existing facility underwent major mechanical and infrastructure upgrades, including new plant areas and enhanced power systems, to meet client requirements and ensure continuous storage of valuable scientific samples, all while managing tight procurement lead times.
The SRA facility was designed and built by FDC and is now being used as the benchmark for the SRA’s future labs all across the world.
