Bowel Cancer Australia was the beneficiary of FDC’s annual Melbourne Cup Luncheon this year, a valuable opportunity to support a meaningful cause that positively impacts people in our community.

Bowel Cancer is the deadliest cancer for people aged 25-44. With cases on the rise year-on-year, our partnership with Bowel Cancer Australia will support the transformation of research and knowledge into accessible programs and services for patients.

FDC’s 18th annual Melbourne Cup Luncheon in November, 2024, has proudly raised $450,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia. The sum raised will contribute to Bowel Cancer Australia’s key initiatives:

  1. Australian-first GP Education Modules: research shows younger patients may wait anywhere from 3 months to 5 years for a diagnosis, often due to the misconception of bowel cancer being an “old person’s disease”. These resources will enhance awareness of symptoms, improve understanding of early-onset bowel cancer, and promote timely referrals for better patient outcomes.
  2. Early-Onset Bowel Cancer Research: FDC will be funding the second year of a new research project focused on early-onset bowel cancer research. We know that 99% of bowel cancer cases are treatable if they are detected early.
  3. Specialist Bowel Cancer Nurses: the funding of devoted Specialist Bowel Care Nurse support in regional areas providing more patients with the care they deserve, as close to home as possible.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to making a lasting impact in the fight against bowel cancer. Together, we are helping pave the way for earlier diagnosis, better treatment options, and greater support for patients, especially in regional areas.

This outstanding result is one we can only achieve with the collective support and generosity of our people, subbies, clients and partners.

A special thanks to our inspiring guest speaker, Mark Allen; our auctioneer Michael Garofolo from Cooley Auctioneers; and our MCs, Steff and Con, as well as all our remarkable partners, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who contributed t0 educating, entertaining, and enlightening us.

We look forward to sharing the outcomes of these initiatives in the future.
