FDC (QLD) was engaged to complete the refurbishment and fitout of University of Queensland’s (UQ) Bio Sciences Laboratories within the MacGregor Building at the UQ Main Campus in St Lucia.

University of Queensland International is the premier University and tertiary education institution in Australia and one of the country’s premier seats of learning. They deliver a full range of degree-level educational courses and services to students, the community and other institutions.

The 1,200sqm refurbishment and fitout was delivered within 14 weeks and included full demolition of the eastern end of Level 3 of the building, which contained a number of unknowns (due to building age) and asbestos within some building elements.

At the conclusion of the demolition stage, it was discovered that services access and supply routes into the building had exceeded capacity. FDC took the initiative with the design team, suggesting the use of a redundant lift shaft as an ideal access point and services riser for the building, which resulted in future-proofing of the building for this purpose.

The UQ Macgregor Laboratories was a very successful maiden project for FDC and UQ, with success we plan on repeating well into the future.
