NEOGEN is the owner of the world’s largest agricultural genotyping operation. It arrived in Australia in 2018 to give Australian livestock farmers better access to genomic testing.

However, the lab quickly grew too small to keep up with the demand. NEOGEN needed a complete space and lab upgrade, so they partnered with us to build and fitout a new facility on a new site.

One of the biggest challenges in this build was addressing the highly reactive ground conditions and the foundations of the original structure on site. We removed over 5,000 cubes of ground material before building back up with denser materials – allowing us to create a new foundation and continue with the construction project.

Key features of the project included:

  • Remediation of existing foundations
  • Construction of a ‘building within a building’ to retain the site’s original structure
  • Three NATA accredited DNA labs
  • A solar plant
  • Carpark upgrade
  • Freezers and cold rooms
  • Fire-rated rooms
  • Climate controlled storage area

Today, the lab is the largest facility of its kind in Australia, capable of testing up to 60,000 samples in a single month. FDC worked proudly alongside Cushman and Wakefield to complete this new lab, giving NEOGEN room to grow as the demand for their products and testing continues to grow.
