The brief – to create a new, state-of-the-art facility to cater to families, thereby creating the first communal building in Calderwood. The result – exactly that.

The recent completion of the Plough & Ale Inn in Calderwood is another chapter in the relationship between FDC and Laundy Hotels.

The Plough & Ale Inn was designed to be a facility which appeals to all age groups and provides a place for children to enjoy the playground, adults to enjoy watching sports, and the community as a whole to enjoy a gourmet meal in a relaxing and social environment.

The development consists of a new 1,130sqm tavern that can house up to 440 patrons. The interiors were tastefully designed to compliment Calderwood’s rich rural history. The tavern consists of a sprawling main bar, multiple dining areas and a gaming room. An expansive new commercial kitchen and back of house area was intricately designed and constructed to allow for efficient operational activities in serving patrons.

Externally, the building was constructed with multiple finishes including a mesh facade for plants to grow on, to establish a strong connection with the surrounding environment. An outdoor beer garden was also designed to interface with the nearby parklands.

FDC is honoured to have delivered this project alongside long-term client Laundy Hotels, and outstanding project partners:

Architect: Team 2
Structural Engineer: Northrop
Certifier: Blackett Maguire + Goldsmith
