FDC (QLD) was engaged to complete the refurbishment and fitout of University of Queensland’s (UQ) ‘River Room’ at the historic, heritage listed Customs House in Brisbane’s CBD.

University of Queensland (UoQ) is the premier University and tertiary education institution in Australia and one of the country’s premier seats of learning. They deliver a full range of degree-level educational courses and services to students, the community and other institutions.

The 1,000sqm refurbishment and fitout was delivered within 20 weeks and included full strip out of the existing main venue room, administration offices, amenities to each floor, plant and back-of-house areas.

The most striking feature of the project is a 3-dimensional, contoured ceiling comprised of pressed metal triangular plates set below a newly-installed mechanical services system.

Additionally, FDC undertook construction of new stylish back-of-house administration and organisational areas, plan and storage rooms to complete the update of this busy restaurant and training facility. Following stages included staged refurbishment of each of the buildings’ amenities areas. All works were undertaken whilst UoQ operated Customs House.
